About this grant
The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program is the largest source of early-stage technology funding in the United States. Phase I provides feasibility funding for highly innovative R&D projects across 11 federal agencies (NIH, DOE, NSF, DoD, DARPA, etc.). Particularly active funding areas include blockchain for federal applications, decentralized identity, AI safety, quantum computing, and clean energy. The program is non-dilutive — no equity taken — and US-based small businesses (under 500 employees) qualify.
